3D Modelling: Vintage Telephone

All the proportions of this vintage telephone are completely wrong, I mean, realistically you wouldn't be able to actually use this phone. Not to mention it doesn't have a cord...
I tried to fix various parts of it but it wouldn't work out.

There are a lot of issues with this model, not only the size and proportions and probably some technical issues too.

I have no idea what happened in this last picture,
I couldn't figure out how to cut in the floating geometry, it didn't really work out the way I wanted it so I kept it as it is.

I'm compiling a list of things I need to work on, scaling in importance, although it is basically everything. Most of it is pretty obvious from my pieces.

3D Modelling: Barrel Texturing

This barrel is very lack-luster.
I tried to go for a futuristic, clean looking barrel, but there wasn't much shading and therefore hasn't turned out well at all.
I plan to go back and visit this to put a lot more detail into this piece.
The sides and top of the barrel I think are okay, as well as the bands around the outside of it. However, overall, the shading could be improved as well as the actual colours.

For me, this piece was mostly to get used to painting and comparing the details in Photoshop to the texture on the 3D model and applying it.
I didn't focus too much on the actual painting side of things, which I will do in future models.

I feel like I've been a bit strapped for time since I started this unit and I'm really not sure why. There seems to be a lot going on but also not a lot, which is strange, but I am determined to go back and practice a lot of what we've learned.

3D Modelling: Desk Lamps

This first lamp is one we did in the taught sessions. Maya seems like it would become more simple once you familiarise yourself with the shortcuts and what things do, although you could say the same thing about a lot of programs, but actually using the functions when you get to it doesn't seem as difficult as it first looks like it would be.

These lamps have not been created with references, although they should have been and it would have probably been helpful if they were.

While I was creating my own lamp at home, I had a lot of trouble with extruding. Whenever I tried to extrude a face, it would move from two different areas and it was really confusing, but it turns out I wasn't pressing the right keys to get to the right function, so I was doing something completely different. This is a really simple what-is-meant-to-be-a lava lamp type thing. Mostly I just did it to practice making shapes, extruding and moving things, the aesthetic is not particularly appealing.

This time I tried to make a lamp actually look like a lamp. There's little extrusion on this lamp. However there are other things like the horizontal features on the inside of the lamp shade. The light bulb itself on this lamp is shaped like one, although it is hard to see on these images. I wanted to make the horizontal wires diagonal, however couldn't make it how I wanted, so I will practice it more at another time, with more lamp designs.
